Grant McCarty

Grant came to the lab as a student assistant in 2009 and served as the Intern Coordinator for the inaugural group of UT Organic Farm Interns in 2010. In the fall of 2010, he joined David Butler’s Organic, Sustainable, and Alternative Crop Production laboratory as a graduate student studying alternatives to fumigation. After graduating with his Master's degree in December 2012, Grant became the UT Farmers Market Event Coordinator.

After earning a BA in Sociology from Maryville College in 2008, Grant was a Research Assistant for UT's Biofuels Initiative and Agricultural Economics Department. He also interned at an Eco-Village in Western Montana, working on Permaculture and Sustainable Agricultural methods. His goal is to work in Extension.

His interests include no-tillage methods, biofuels, companion planting, chicken tractors, and permaculture practices.
