José Javier Vargas worked as a student assistant for the UT Organic and Sustainable Crop Production lab in 2008. His contributions to our research involved evaluation of vegetable quality in the laboratory & maintenance of research projects at the UT Organic Crops Unit. José Javier received his B.S. from the University of Puerto Rico in Agronomy and Soil Science. He participated in a wide array of plant-related research projects during his undergraduate studies, including examining native & exotic dominant forest structure, water quality analyses of wetlands in Puerto Rico, forage quality and nutrient management, ganoderma and pleurotus mushroom production, organic horticulture and postharvest physiology. Currently José Javier is a Research Associate for the Horticultural Weed Management Program under Dr. Greg Armel in the Department of Plant Sciences. Present research addresses the use of Chlorophyll Fluorescence to evaluate the physiological response of wild-type and herbicide resistance weeds challenged by different inhibitors of Photosystem II & Carotenoid biosynthesis. |
