Jessica was born in Eastern Pennsylvania where her grandparents, mother and uncles once ran a dairy farm. They moved to South Florida when she was six years old and she did most of her growing up in the sunny subtropics. Her parents are restaurant professionals and she was raised on delicious fresh vegetables and homemade meals. This upbringing sparked her interest in raising her own vegetables that she could incorporate into her own culinary creations! She graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a B.S. in Environmental Studies in 2002. In 2000, she joined Americorps and volunteered with the North Cascades National Park in Washington State. Since then she has worked with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Collier County Pollution Control Department in Florida and Brown and Caldwell Environmental Consultants in Ohio. Her positions were geared towards environmental field work and compliance with state and federal environmental regulations. Over the past several years, she has spent her spare time taking organic gardening classes, tending her home gardens, pursuing the Florida Master Gardener certification and learning to keep bees through University of Florida extension beekeeping courses and as a member of the Southwest Florida Beekeeper's Association. She believes each of us can make a positive impact in our communities and in the world by supporting local sustainable businesses. Her dream is to start a small sustainable family farm in Central Tennessee. She was an intern in the OSCP Program in 2012. |
