Utsala Shrestha is from Nepal. She earned her Bachelor's degree majoring in Horticulture in 2007 and Master's degree in Conservation Ecology in 2009 from Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science, Tribhuwan University, Nepal. During this time, she also worked at IUCN, Nepal and work as a team member in strategic planning for sustainable development in Eastern Nepal. After her graduation, she worked as a Horticulture Development Officer in the Government of Nepal from 2009-2012. She joined the Master of Landscape Architecture program in the University of Tennessee from August 2012 to December 2012. After learning some design skills, she joined David Butler’s Organic, Sustainable, and Alternative Crop Production laboratory as a graduate student. Her work focuses on alternatives to MeBr fumigation, carbon amendments, C:N ratio, soil borne pathogens and beneficial microbes.  She has strong belief that after her study, she will design some programs to provide an opportunity to female farmers to adopt sustainable design and production practices in her country. 

In addition to these, she is interested in floristry, photography and designing.
